Spanish Fritters

  • Slices of bread, half an inch thick
  • 1 pint cream or milk
  • Sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • Nutmeg, grated
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Lard
Cut the bread in strips like lady fingers or any size you wish. Sweeten the cream or milk.

Stir a little ground cinnamon, cloves, grated nutmeg and a little pinch of salt into the beaten eggs. Add this to the cream or milk.

Lay the bread on a flat dish and pour the custard over it. Let it stand until all absorbed by the bread.

Fry a light brown in butter and lard.
