Custard Cake

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 7 eggs, leaving out 4 yolks
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • For the custard:
  • 1 quart milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3 Tbsps cornstarch
  • 1 ounce butter
  • Vanilla
Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the rest of the ingredients. Mix completely together. Bake in shallow pans.

For the custard, let the milk come to a boil and add sugar. Take the egg yolks and cornstarch and mix with a little chilled milk. Stir gradually into the boiling milk. Continue stirring until done. Add butter and flavor with vanilla. Spread between the layers of the cakes.
