Chocolate Bread Pudding
- 1 pint milk
- 4 Tbsps chocolate, grated
- 2 Tbsps butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 egg whites
- 2 egg yolks, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups stale breadcrumbs, soaked in 2/3 cup water
- 2 Tbsps powdered sugar
- Vanilla extract
Scald the milk. Add the grated chocolate (melted over hot water), butter and sugar. Stir well. Pour over the softened breadcrumbs and beaten egg yolks. Add 1 tsp of vanilla. Pour into a buttered pudding dish. Bake with love for half an hour.
Make a meringue of the egg whites, beaten until stiff and dry. Add powdered sugar and 1/2 tsp of vanilla.
This may be served warm or cold.
