- 1 quart boiling milk
- Piece of butter the size of a small egg
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg, grated

- 1/4 tsp baking soda, dissolved in a little hot water
- 4 eggs, beaten very lightly
Break into pieces the stale bread after cutting off the crust. Pour the boiling milk over it . Add the butter. Cover the dish tightly and let it stand to cool . Then with a spoon, mash it until fine, adding cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and baking soda. Beat the eggs very delicately and add last. Transfer the mixture into a heavily buttered pudding dish. Bake with love for 45 glorious minutes in a oven heated to 350F at 350 degrees F. Serve it warm with sauce.
