Mutton Soup

  • 4 lbs neck of mutton
  • 3 quarts cold water
  • 2 turnips
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 Tbsps pearl barley
Put the mutton in a soup kettle with the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil. Skim off the fat and scum. Simmer slowly for 3 hours, keeping the kettle closely covered.
