Ginger Cookies

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 egg, well-beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Cream shortening. Add sugar. Beat with enthusiasm. Sift remaining dry ingredients. Add well-beaten egg to creamed shortening and sugar and then add the dry ingredients, molasses and buttermilk gradually, beating with vigor. Drop from spoon onto a greased pan, some distance apart. Bake in a oven heated to 350F at 350°F.
