English Bath Buns

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 5 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cake yeast, dissolved in a little warm water
  • Flavoring
  • Sultanas or chopped almonds (optional)
Put the flour in a bowl and make a well in the center. Break the eggs in whole. Add butter, milk and dissolved yeast. Mix thoroughly and then let it rise. If placed in a moderately warm place, it will be light in an hour.

Turn it out on a well flour-covered surface. With the fingertips, lightly work in the sugar and add the flavoring.

Drop by tablespoonfuls on a buttered baking pan. Let it rise (rise up!) for approximately ten minutes (be patient, you rascal).

Bake with love for 20 minutes in a hot oven at 400°F.

(Sultanas or chopped almonds may be added.)
