Cold Berry Pudding
- Stale bread, cut in thin slices
- Butter
- Sugar
- 1 quart or more huckleberries and blackberries
Take the stale bread, baker's bread or light homemade, cut in thin slices and spread with butter. Add a little sugar and water to the huckleberries and blackberries, or the former alone. Stew for a few minutes until juicy. Put a layer of buttered bread in the buttered pudding dish, then a layer of stewed berries while still hot and repeat the process until the pudding dish is full. Put a covering of stewed berries on top. Serve cold with thick cream and sugar.
