Celery Au Gratin with Ham

  • 10 large potatoes
  • Large root celery
  • 3 small onions
  • Chopped ham
  • Salt and pepper
  • Melted butter
  • 2 cups sweet milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons grated cheese
Peel 10 large potatoes and cut in thin slices, also a large root celery and 3 small onions. Place layers of these in a buttered baking dish and on each layer sprinkle some chopped ham. Season each layer with pepper and salt to taste and pour some melted butter over it. Fill dish in this manner and add 2 cups sweet milk into which have been beaten 2 large eggs. Dust a little salt over the top and a couple of tablespoons grated cheese. Bake in hot oven, at first covered with a lid and then without until vegetables are tender and top nicely browned.
