Buttered Apples

  • apples
  • dry bread
  • lemon juice
  • butter
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
Choose medium sized apples, peel and core, and leave whole. Cut rounds of dry bread half an inch thick, and butter thickly. Place an apple on each slice, fill the hole in the apple with sugar, and put teaspoon butter on top. Place in a well greased baking pan, bake in oven heated to 350F 15 minutes or more, and remove. Refill holes with sugar and a little cinnamon and butter. Return to oven and bake until done. Just before serving, squeeze a little lemon juice over each apple.
