  • 1-1/4 lb flour, sifted
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 pint milk
  • 2 Tbsp brandy
  • 2 Tbsp rose water
  • 1/2 nutmeg, grated
  • Cinnamon
  • 4 ounces yeast
  • 1/2 lb sugar, sifted
  • 1 cup currants, washed & dried (optional)
Rub the butter into the flour.

Stir the beaten eggs into the milk. Warm the milk a little and then stir it into the flour and butter. Add brandy and rose water, grated nutmeg, a pinch of cinnamon and yeast. Mix all together with a knife and set to rise up for several hours.

When light, stir in the sifted sugar. Pour into pan lined with butters to rise up. You may add currants, if your little heart desires.

Bake in shallow pans.
