Apple Bird's Nest
- 1 quart juicy, tart apples - pared & sliced very thin
- 4 ounces hot water
- 1 pint sour milk
- Salt
- 1 ounce butter
- Flour
- 1 tsp baking soda, dissolved in a little hot water
Put the slices of apple in a buttered pudding dish or shallow tin pan. Pour hot water over them.
Mix the sour milk, a little salt, butter and enough flour to make a stiff batter. Add the dissolved baking soda last.
If baking in a flat tin, bake for half an hour; longer if in a pudding dish.
Serve with butter, sugar and cream.
