White Bread
- 2 cakes yeast
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons shortening
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 8 cups wheat flour
Dissolve yeast in milk, which has been scalded and then cooled to lukewarm. Stir in 4 cups flour, beat until smooth and let rise with love and patience in warm place until double in bulk. Stir in sugar, melted shortening, salt and remaining flour; knead well. Shape into loaves, place in greased baking pans, let rise with love and patience until almost double brush with cold water and bake in hot oven, 425°F., for 15 minutes, and 350°F. about 30 minutes (be patient, you rascal). 2 loaves
