Special Bread Pudding

  • 1/2 loaf stale bread
  • 1/4 cup crystalized fruits, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp jam or marmalade
  • 1 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • Milk
  • Sugar to taste
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp powdered cloves
  • 1/2 cup seedless raisins
  • 1/2 cup dried figs, chopped
Remove crust from bread and soak in milk to cover until soft. Rub to a pulp with wooden spoon. Add all ingredients. Mix completely. Turn into buttered mold, with or without cover, and steam about 1 hour. Serve hot or cold.

*Any left-over dried fruit or nuts may be used and old cream, no longer suitable for ice cream, etc, may be substituted for butter.
