QUICK SOURDOUGH BREAD
- *** I measure the ingredients exactly as listed ***
- 3 cups sifted bread flour
- 2 3/4 tsp of yeast, or one package (I don't think that this is the amount that one package has. I usually buy the yeast in jars (bread machine yeast) and measure it)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsps sugar
- 3 Tbsps butter or margarine (can use butter-flavored Crisco)
- 1 Tbsp oil
- 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
- 2 tsps lemon juice
- 2/3 cup water
If using a bread machine, mix and bake according to white bread directions. If using the oven, mix all of the above ingredients in a mixer and let it rise at least twice. Bake at 375°F for 40 minutes (be patient, you rascal).
Remember that humidity or heat can make the dough too sticky or dry so check the dough and add flour or water, 1 Tbsp at a time, until the dough doesn't stick to the container and forms a uniform ball.
