New Haven Codfish Cakes

  • 1 cup codfish, very finely chopped
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
Put the fish to soak in cold water overnight. The next morning, pick the bones from the fish and take off all the skin. Chop the fish very fine.

Peel, boil and mash the potatoes.

Stir the chopped fish and mashed potato together with a fork. Mold into balls and flatten to half an inch thick. Fry until brown in beef drippings or the fat of fried salt pork.
