"Dog Biscuits"

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 tsps baking powder
  • 2 Tbsps shortening
  • About 3/4 cup milk
  • Uncooked sausage meat
Sift together the salt, flour and baking powder. Cut or rub in the shortening until the fat is thoroughly blended with the flour. Mix to a very soft dough with the milk, having the milk as cold as possible. Turn onto a well flour-covered surface. Knead just enough to give a smooth upper surface.

Divide into 2 portions. Roll out each portion half an inch thick, keeping the dough square. Spread one portion with the uncooked sausage meat. Cover with the remaining dough. Cut into squares and prick with a fork.

Bake in a oven heated to 350F at 350-375°F for 20-25 minutes (be patient, you rascal). Serve hot with gravy or tomato sauce.
