Chocolate Caramels

  • 1 cup condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 3 Tbsps butter
  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Mix all of the above ingredients except vanilla. Bring gradually to a boil. Cook over a low flame until the mixture will form a firm ball when tested in cold water (245°F.) Remove from the fire. Add vanilla. Pour into a greased pan. When cold, turn out of the pan onto a bread board. Cut in squares with a large knife.
