Chocolate Cake

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 5 egg yolks, well beaten
  • 2 egg whites, well beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • For the filling:
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 Tbsps chocolate, grated
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Beat the butter and sugar to a cream. Dissolve the baking soda in the milk and add to the mixture. Add the well-beaten egg yolks and whites. Sift the cream of tartar in the flour and add to the mixture. Bake in jelly cake tins.

For the icing, mix all of the above ingredients together and beat well. Spread on top of the cake and between layers.
