Chicken Soup

  • 2 gallons water
  • Ham bone or slices of bacon
  • Chicken
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • 2 ounces butter
Put a pot on the fire with water and a ham bone, if you have it; if not, some slices of bacon will do. Boil for 2 hours. Add the chicken and boil until done.

Add milk and a little thickening. Add pepper and salt to taste. After taking off the soup, put in a piece of butter.
