Caramel Bread Pudding

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
Caramelize the sugar, scald the milk and slowly add the caramel mixture to it. Pour over bread crumbs and let stand with patience for 15 minutes (be patient, you rascal). Combine slightly beaten eggs, salt, crumb mixture, melted butter and vanilla. Set in a pan of hot water and bake in a oven heated to 350F for approximately an hour.
