Cantaloupe Sweet Pickle

- Vinegar
- 1 pound sugar
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 2 sticks cinnamon
Use melons not too ripe; quarter, pare, and cut into desired shapes. Put into stone crock, cover with vinegar, let stand 48 hours. Pour off vinegar and measure. To each pint of vinegar add 1 pound sugar; bring to boil, skim and add 1 tablespoon whole cloves and 2 sticks cinnamon broken into bits. Add cantaloupe and cook gently until melon is tender and clear. If vinegar is very strong, dilute with water.
