Brewis (from Boston Brown Bread)

  • 2 cups Boston brown bread, broken into small pieces
  • Milk
  • Salt
  • 1 Tbsp butter
Put the pieces of bread in a saucepan. Add enough milk to cover, a pint or more. Let it soak awhile. When the bread is soft, simmer until the milk is absorbed. Add a little salt and butter.

Serve with cream.
