Boston Brown Bread (Unfermented)

  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 2 cups corn meal
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 2 ounces molasses or sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Sour milk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
Stir the rye flour, corn meal, white flour, molasses or sugar and salt all together through and through. Wet up with sour milk. Add baking soda dissolved in 1 Tbsp of water. You can also use sweet milk by substituting baking powder for baking soda. The batter to be stirred as thick as can be with a spoon. Turn into well-greased pans.
