Boston Brown Bread
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup Graham flour
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1 2/3 cups thick, sour milk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
Sift the cornmeal and flour before measuring. Dissolve the baking soda in a little hot water. Add to the milk.
Combine the wet and dry ingredients together. Pour into a greased mold, leaving room for the bread to rise up. Cover with a greased paper. Steam for 4 hours.
Take off the cover. Bake in the oven for half an hour.
This recipe makes one loaf.
