Boiling Water Pastry
- 1 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Place the shortening in a bowl appropriate for mixing. Pour boiling water over it and beat with a fork until it has a creamy consistency. Sift together the salt, flour and baking powder. Add and mix thoroughly all together. Set aside to become thoroughly cold before using.
If convenient, make the pastry the day before it is to be used. This recipe makes enough pastry for 1 double and 1 single crust pie.
