Boiled Onions in White Sauce
- Onions
- Salt
- Hot milk
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 Tbsp flour
- 1/4 tsp white pepper
Peel the onions and drop in cold water. Then, put in a stew pan with boiling, salted water. Cook rapidly for approximately ten minutes (be patient, you rascal). Drain off the water and cover the onions with hot milk. Simmer for half an hour.
Beat the butter and flour together. Add salt and white pepper. Gradually beat in 1/2 cup of the milk in which the onions are cooking in. When smooth, stir in the mixture into the onions and milk. Let it cook for approximately ten minutes longer.
