Boiled Frosting
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 4 Tbsps boiling water
- 1 Tbsp shortening
- 1/2 tsp flavoring
- 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
Combine the sugar, water, shortening and cream of tartar. Boil the mixture, without stirring, until it threads. Add the flavoring. Let the mixture cool until tepid and then beat until it is thick enough to spread on the cake.
