Bismarck Cake
- White batter:
- 3 cups white sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sour cream or buttermilk
- 5 cups flour
- 8 egg whites
- 1 small spoonful baking soda
- Dark batter:
- 2 cups coffee sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup butter
- 5 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 8 egg yolks
- 1 egg
- 4 Tbsps mixed spices, finely powdered
Mix all of the ingredients for the white batter together. Mix completely. Do the same with the ingredients for the dark batter.
Put in the pan, in alternate layers of light and dark batter. Bake quickly at 400°F, like sponge cake.
Ice and ornament with chocolate drops.
This fills a 2 pound mold.
