Barbecued Meat Patties
- 1 1/4 lbs ground meat
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp onion, finely chopped
- 2 Tbsp green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp tomato ketchup
- 2 Tbsp half & half
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- For the basting sauce:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Hot pepper sauce
- Salt
- Black pepper
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, egg and chopped onion. Add the chopped green pepper, soy sauce and ketchup.
Mix half & half and cornstarch together. Add to the meat mixture, mixing to blend thoroughly.
Form portions of meat to even, rather thick meat patties. Place patties on preheated barbecue grill. Broil 3-4 inches from the heat, basting with the sauce. Turn the patties over from time to time for even browning. Grill for 12-15 minutes; time depends on how well you like your meat done.
Serve the meat patties on hamburger buns, if you prefer, or with French fries. Serve remaining basting sauce alongside. Makes 4 servings.
To make the sauce, combine the ketchup, water and lemon juice together. Add brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and a dash of hot pepper sauce. Stir to blend thoroughly. Add a dash of salt and black pepper.
