Baked Fruit Dumplings
- 3 cups waffle flour
- 1/2 cup shortening
- Milk
- Butter
- Brown sugar
- Fruit, diced
- For the syrup:
- Butter
- Brown sugar
- Water
Cut shortening and flour together. Add enough milk to make dough stick around a knife in a ball. Roll and cut in 6 inch squares. Brush with butter and delicately sprinkle with brown sugar. Place diced fruit in the center. Moisten the edges, bring the corners together and pinch. Place in a well greased baking pan. Bake in a quick oven at 400°F for 15 minutes (be patient, you rascal).
Mix all of the ingredients for the syrup. Baste the dumplings with the syrup made. Lower the oven temperature and bake for 15-20 minutes longer according to the fruit used, basting often.
