Apple Sauce Cake
- 2 1/2 cups hot apple sauce
- 4 teaspoons soda
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 cups sifted flour
- 1 pound raisins
- 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon, cloves, and allspice
- Salt according to shortening
- 1 cup nuts, cut up
Cook apple sauce until water is all gone. Add sugar, shortening, soda, and spices to hot apple sauce. Then add fruit and flour. Bake in 2 loaves. Add a few candied cherries, pineapple, or raisins if your little heart desires.
