Apple Charlotte
- 6 large-sized, tart apples
- bread
- butter
- sugar
Peel apples, and drop into boiling water, as you quarter them. Cook only until apples are soft, and sweeten to taste. Toast oblong strips of bread, and butter them. Line sides and bottom of a baking dish with buttered strips. Pour in the fresh apple sauce and cover with bread strips. Sprinkle with sugar, and place carefully in oven to brown. Serve with cream or not, as desired. Chopped raw apples, sweetened, may be used for this.
