Vanilla Sauce No. 1

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 rounded tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream butter, add sugar gradually, and stir until light. Place cornstarch in pan, moisten with cold water, and pour atop it 1 pint boiling water. Cook until clear. At serving time add this hot to butter and sugar; mix well, and add vanilla extract.
