Strawberry Short Cake

  • 1 pint of flour
  • Lard
  • Milk
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
Prepare the dough exactly as for baking powder biscuits, 1 pint of flour with the usual proportions of lard, milk, salt and baking powder, will make 1 good sized cake. It should be rolled the same thickness as for biscuit and baked in a layer cake pan. The berries should be stemmed, sprinkled with sugar, and set away for a little time. When the cake is done, split it open carefully, spread the lower spoon, that the juice may penetrate the crust. Turn the upper crust upside down on top of the berries and add another layer of berries. Serve moderately cool with cream.
