Stewed Beef

  • 4-5 lbs thick slice from the rump of beef
  • Drippings or butter
  • 1 carrot, cut into small pieces
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • Bunch of parsley
  • Thyme
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • 1 Tbsp browned flour
  • 2 tsps browning
  • 4 Tbsps tomato or mushroom catsup
Brown the beef in drippings or butter in a stew pan. Pour boiling water over it to cover. Add the carrot, chopped onions, a bunch of parsley and thyme, pepper and salt. Stew gently for 3-4 hours. When tender, serve on a hot dish.

Thicken the gravy wit browned flour. Add browning and tomato or mushroom catsup. Let it boil up. Pour over the meat and serve like a rascal with a smile on your face.
