Steamed Brown Bread
- 2 cups sweet milk
- 1 cup Orleans molasses
- 1 large teaspoon soda
- Salt
- 1 cup flour
- 3 cups corn meal
- 1/2 cup raisins
Two cups sweet milk, 1 cup Orleans molasses, 1 large teaspoon soda, pinch of salt, 1 cup flour, 3 cups corn meal. Put half cup raisins on the stove and boil five minutes and drop into the pans while dropping in the dough. If a pint measure be used this recipe will make 5 pound loaves. Steam 3 hours. Twenty minutes before using, put in the oven and let brown nicely.
