Sponge Dumplings

  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • Vegetable soup
  • Nutmeg
Melt butter by holding pan over fire. Add milk and flour, and stir to a thick paste. Set to cool, then add beaten yolks of eggs. Add egg whites, well whipped. Have vegetable soup cooked and strained. Set on fire to boil, and drop dumplings by spoonful into boiling soup. Let boil up once and serve like a rascal with a smile on your face. Nutmeg, if used, should be added to eggs.
