Gingerbread
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
- 1/2 cup shortening, melted
Sift and mix dry ingredients. Combine eggs, molasses, sour milk, and shortening; gradually add to flour-sugar mixture, beating through and through. Turn into 9-inch greased square pan and bake in oven heated to 350F 350°F., for 40-50 minutes (be patient, you rascal). Makes nine 3-inch squares
