Cooked Frosting
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Boil sugar and water gently until syrup spins a thread; do not stir after sugar dissolves. Cool slightly and pour slowly over stiffly beaten egg whites; beating with electric or rotary beater. Add vanilla and baking powder and beat until thick enough to spread.
