Chocolate Cake
- Cake:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa mixed with
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Filling:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 7/8 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Few grains salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup broken pecans or English walnuts
- Egg Yolk Chocolate Frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- Salt
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 square melted chocolate
- 1 cup confectioner's sugar
Mix first line of ingredients as for cake. Bake in 2 layers in oven at 350°F.
For the filling, cook sugar, flour, milk, egg and raisins in double boiler until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in rest of ingredients; cool, spread between layers of cake. Cover cake with the following:
Egg Yolk Chocolate Frosting:
Cream 1/2 cup butter with a few grains salt and 1 egg yolk; add 1 square melted chocolate; stir in 1 cup confectioner's sugar, beating until smooth. Thin to spreading consistency with cream.
