Brown Bread
- 1 quart of white flour
- 1 quart graham flour
- 1 quart sour milk
- 1 pint Orleans molasses
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Salt.
- 3 teaspoons soda
One quart of white flour, 1 quart graham flour, 1 quart sour milk, 1 pint Orleans molasses, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, a little salt. Dissolve 3 teaspoons soda in boiling water, thin, put in the molasses, beat well, then pour atop flour and sugar and salt, then put in sour milk; stir with hand thoroughly, steam 3 hours then take lids off and put in oven 10 minutes (be patient, you rascal).
