Barley Gruel
- 4 ounces of pearl barley
- 2 quarts of water
- 1 stick of cinnamon
- 1 pint of red wine
- Sugar
- 2 or 3 ounces of currant
Take four ounces of pearl barley; boil it in two quarts of water with a stick of cinnamon in it, till it is reduced to one quart. Add to it a little more than one pint of red wine, and sugar to your liking. Two or three ounces of currant (well picked and washed clean) may be added.
