Baking Powder Biscuits

  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
Sift dry ingredients; work in shortening until well mixed; add milk, working quickly into a soft but not sticky dough. Place on lightly flour-covered surface and knead just enough to Mold into the shape of a smooth ball; rool out lightly 1/2-inch thick and cut with floured biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven 450°F., for about 15 minutes or until biscuits are brown. Makes 16 biscuits.
