Baker's Gingerbread
- 1 quart of molasses
- 2 teaspoonful of saleratus
- 1 pint of sweet milk
- 1/2 pound of melted butter
- 3 ounces of ginger
- Alum the size of a cherry
- Flour
To make this, take one quart of molasses, two teaspoonsful of saleratus dissolved in a pint of sweet milk, half a pound of melted butter, ( pour the butter into the molasses), three ounces of ginger, a piece of alum the size of a cherry, and enough flour to thicken it properly. The alum is to be added in last of all of the above ingredients.
