Almond Shrub
- 3 gallons of rum or brandy
- 3 quarts of orange-juice
- 3 lemons peel
- 3 pounds of loaf-sugar
- 4 ounces of bitter almonds
Take three gallons of rum or brandy, three quarts of orange-juice, the peel of three lemons, and three pounds of loaf-sugar; then take four ounces of bitter almonds, blanch and beat them fine, mix them all well together, let it stand an hour to curdle, run it through a flannel bag several times till it is clear, and then bottle it for use.
