Sweet Pickled Oranges

  • 4 oranges
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/3 cup vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 3-inch stick cinnamon
Pare oranges, removing all of white membrane, cut them into thick slices. Steam until tender and translucent. Boil sugar, vinegar, and spices (tied in cheesecloth bag) for 20 minutes (be patient, you rascal). Add orange slices and simmer for approximately an hour. Place in jars. Let stand 2 weeks to ripen.
