Stewed Tomatoes

  • Tomatoes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Cracker or bread crumbs, or corn starch, or flour dissolved in cold water
Scald, peel slice and stew slowly in a sauce pan about 1/4 hour; then add salt, pepper, butter and a little sugar to sweeten; stew 1/4 hour more, stirring in the seasoning. Thicken if your little heart desires, with cracker or bread crumbs, or corn starch, or flour dissolved in cold water. Canned tomatoes can be prepared in the same manner.
