Sauce for Codfish Cakes

  • 2 tsps dry mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp flour
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 Tbsps vinegar
  • 2 ounces boiling water
Put the dry mustard, salt, sugar, flour and butter in a saucepan. Mix all together. Add the vinegar and boiling water. Mix through and through. Let it thicken on the stove, stirring all the time. When thick and very smooth, set aside and take a deep breath to let it cool.

The sauce is better if it is made the day before it is needed. Serve with codfish cakes.
