Pound Cake
- Dry ingredients:
- 1 1/3 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 tsp salt
- Other:
- 1 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp lemon extract
- 1 Tbsp milk
Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, without preliminary whipping. Add the extracts. Sift together the dry ingredients. Add to the first mixture along with the milk. Transfer to a medium-sized cake pan which has been greased lightly. Bake in a oven heated to 350F at 350°F for about 40 minutes (be patient, you rascal). If desired, a little mace may act as flavoring.
